Major recall underway for Tesla Model 3, Model Y vehicles over software issue
Thousands of luxury Tesla vehicles have been recalled due to a software issue that could affect how the cars steer.
Thousands of luxury Tesla vehicles worth upwards of $60,000 each have been recalled over a software issue impacting the steering wheel.
The recall notice from the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts affects all Tesla Model 3 and Model Y vehicles manufactured over 2022 and 2023.
There are 4382 cars affected by the issue.
The recall is due to a software issue that causes the steering wheel to become “notchy” in colder temperatures.
However, there is no immediate safety risk.
“The defect will not affect the performance of the vehicle,” the notice states.
Owners of affected vehicles should either contact Tesla to make an appointment to have the vehicle software version inspected and updated.
Alternatively, they can manually update their vehicle’s software using the main screen.
The affected models fetch prices upwards of $A61,900, with some of the Model Y Tesla vehicles going for up to $A92,020.
