Footage has emerged of a truckie travelling down a busy motorway with law-breaking modifications to their rig.

Footage has emerged of a truck driver heading down a busy Melbourne motorway with a dangerous modification to its rig.

Huge spikes protruded from the rims of the front wheel as the truck made its way through heavy traffic down a highway.

The video titled “What a knob” was posted to Reddit this week, with Victoria Police saying the truck modification was illegal.

A police spokesperson said they were following up inquiries about the truck and advised people not to make modifications to their vehicles that were unlawful.

Under VicRoads vehicle standards, it is illegal to have anything protruding from the wheel wider than the mudguard.

“When in the straight-ahead position, the wheels and tyres do not project beyond the extreme width of the mudguards when viewed from above,” VicRoads stated.

Social media users were quick to point out that the modifications were illegal in Victoria, with one person commenting, “Absolutely not legal in Victoria. No part of the rotating wheel can extend past the guard when wheels are pointed straight ahead.”

“Also no sharp protrusions,” another agreed.

“Legal on a Roman chariot at the Colosseum,” a person said.

Some Reddit users said the wheel modifications were made poorly and came off easily, destroying tyres that ran over them, while others said they were made of plastic.

Others likened the wheel hub to something you would see in a Mad Max movie, not on city streets.

“Stop trying to make Mad Max a thing,” one person said.

“Mad Max: West Gate Bridge,” another responded.

“I’m living where they shot Mad Max … I drive over the hill from the movie every day. I would laugh if I saw anything like this on there,” a person said.
