‘Licked the note’: Woman’s strange reason for allegedly taking cocaine

A woman has offered a wild reason to police for why she allegedly had cocaine in her system while driving.

A woman has offered a strange reason to police for why she was allegedly on cocaine while driving on NSW’s Central Coast last week.

Highway Patrol officers allegedly spotted a Holden commodore travelling above the speed limit, and weaving in and out of the marked laneway on the Pacific Hwy at Wyong on July 17.

They stopped a 39-year-old Lake Haven woman about 2.30pm, with a subsequent drug test returning a positive result for cocaine.

The woman allegedly claimed a friend had given her a $20 note half an hour beforehand with white powder on it.

She told the officers she licked the note in an attempt to identify the unknown substance and said that must be the reason for the positive result.

But the woman was subsequently arrested for breach of bail offences, and was issued two penalty notices for exceeding the speed limit and crossing unbroken lane lines.

Police also took a second test sample from the woman for further analysis, with authorities expecting an additional charge will be laid.

The woman is due to appear in Wyong Local Court next Wednesday.
