An Aussie driver has been left “outraged” after his Tesla was keyed in a supermarket car park.

David Shannon had stopped at Woolworths for less than five minutes to buy flowers when his car was allegedly keyed by a stranger in Queanbeyan, on the ACT-NSW border, on Thursday.

It wasn’t until he returned home that he noticed the damage to his vehicle – estimated to cost $3,000 to repair.

“I was literally gobsmacked,” Mr Shannon told news.com.au.

“I just stood there in shock, thinking ‘why why why??’”

NSW Police confirmed on Wednesday a 77-year-old man has been charged after allegedly damaging a car parked at a shopping centre on Crawford Street, Queanbeyan, last week.

After discovering the damage, Mr Shannon trawled through the Tesla’s on-board cameras and discovered footage of someone ‘keying his car’.

In the footage, a man can be seen walking past the electric vehicle while holding out a set of keys in his left hand.

After scratching the car, he stops and turns back at the Tesla, appearing to inspect the damage for a few moments before walking off.

“When I finally found the footage of the guy keying it, I just yelled out “I found him! I found him!” To my wife who was upstairs.”

“I felt relief that I found the guy, but still felt outrage because I knew that I didn’t know the bloke and he had no reason to do that.”

Mr Shannon shared the video on social media earlier this week, appealing for public assistance to identify the man.

“Is anyone familiar with this man? He keyed my car at Woolworths,” he wrote on the post.

In the post, Mr Shannon confirmed his car was not parked in a disabled spot at the time, and pointed out a disabled parking sign located near vehicle.

“The disabled parks are to the right, as the arrow on the sign indicates,” he clarified in the post.

“This is not going to be a cheap fix and I’d love the opportunity to ask him nicely what drove him to this.”

Many online were quick to blast the man and his decision to seemingly pause and look back at the damage.

“Can’t believe someone would do that!” one person wrote.

“This is absolutely disgusting,” another wrote.

Mr Shannon is yet have the car repaired.

NSW Police attended a home in Queanbeyan on Tuesday following reports of a vehicle being damaged.

Officers attached to Monaro Police District issued a 77-year-old man with a court notice for the charge of destroy or damage property.

He is due to attend Queanbeyan Local Court in November.
