Christopher Walker in court over fiery Sydney Harbour Bridge crash
A teenager will remain in custody after a fiery crash on the Sydney Harbour Bridge that police allege he caused after stealing a car.
A teenager who allegedly sped a stolen car onto the Sydney Harbour Bridge before losing control and having to be pulled from the fiery wreckage has had his court matter delayed.
Christopher Walker was due to face the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday on three charges related to the alleged crash, including assault with intent to take or drive motor vehicle, dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and negligent driving.
The 19-year-old Queenslander was pulled from the wreckage of the allegedly carjacked Toyota Kluger moments after it allegedly collided head-on with a HiAce van and another vehicle on March 11.
The Kluger flipped onto its roof and shortly burst into flames, however bystanders were able to rescue drivers in all three cars.
Police released a picture of Mr Walker’s distinctive hand tattoo before tracking him down in hospital.
He did not appear in court on Thursday as his matter was adjourned for a brief to be served on him by police.
It will be back before court in September.
NSW Police allege the teenager stole the Kluger from Sydney’s CBD as the owner changed a tyre.
Moments later the car was allegedly caught on dashcam footage racing across the bridge at high speeds and slamming into traffic.
Mr Walker was pulled from the fiery wreckage and rushed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where he was treated for suspected head injuries.
Two days later he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and assault with intent to take/drive a motor vehicle.
He appeared at Central Local Court in a bedside hearing later that day.
Mr Walker has not applied for bail.
