The bizarre gift turning up on Melbourne cars

A Reddit user has sparked debate online after carrying out a series of bizarre acts - and Aussies can’t decide if they like it or not.

Imagine walking out to your parked car and spotting a mysterious envelope on your windshield.

Inside, a photo of your vehicle, taken by someone hiding behind a bush, with a note left behind.

This may happen to you.

It’s Melbourne’s latest bizarre trend.

The mastermind behind this hobby is a Reddit user known as thelowerupperclass, who has sparked debate online after revealing he roams the streets snapping pictures of strangers’ cars, printing them out, and leaving them behind as unexpected “gifts” for their owner.

Thelowerupperclass said it's a “gift to the car community”, a nice gesture, but one that’s landed some criticism.

“I only take pics of cars I think the owners would appreciate,” he explained, adding that he looks for signs of automotive passion, like modification, to determine if someone’s a true enthusiast.

The trend divided readers with one user commenting, “Bro someone gonna think they’re being stalked,” warned Infamous_Egg_9405.

Others were more blunt.

“You’re gonna get your lights knocked out,” wrote another user.

Female users pointed out a more serious concern.

“As a woman, I would feel EXTREMELY scared and intimidated,” said another user.

Some commenters thought the mysterious print might be a passive-aggressive note from a nosy neighbour.

“I’d straight throw it away,” declared one user.

“Just some busybody playing hall monitor.”

Then there were the jokes.

“Last thing I need when I’m parked outside my mistress’s place,” one user said.

Another wrote: “Parking inspectors typical charge for this!”

Others commented on the photo.

“It’s so much worse that the picture literally shows the bushes your hiding behind,” one commenter noted.

“The car only takes up 1/9th of the frame.”

Others praised the move as creative and fun.

A few users even requested to be part of the scheme, proudly listing the makes and models of their own cars.
