MG4 electric price cut in Australia
Tesla rival slashed by 25 per cent as electric car competition heats up.
MG has slashed the price of its MG4 electric car by $10,000 in response to increased competition in the class.
New brands such as XPeng, Zeekr and Leapmotor are preparing to introduce EVs in Australia in coming months, while established rivals such as Hyundai have their own breed cheap EVs on the way.
So MG has cut the cheapest version of its MG4 Electric to $30,990 drive-away, down from about $41,000 drive-away.
That represents a 25 per cent discount on its regular price.
MG’s chief commercial officer, Giles Belcher, said “buyers who had been thinking of making the switch to an EV now can thanks to the lower entry point”.
“We know that people may have been considering an EV but potentially have held off due to the cost now with this limited time offer we’re giving everyone the opportunity to own an MG4,” he said.
“The current campaign starts with our MG4 Excite 51 starting at $30,990 and then factory bonuses of up to $8,000 can be availed across our other trims including the high tech Essence 64, the Long Range 77 and the powerful X-POWER.”
The deal applies until October 31.
“MG is a brand committed to giving its customers value, we introduced a 10 year, 250,000km warranty on our entire range,” Belcher said.
“What does this mean in the real world? Well, the average person keeps a car for around 6-8 years and that means that there is still warranty that can transfer to the next owner ensuring peace of mind for one or more owners over the span of a decade.”
MG’s deal makes the MG4 the cheapest car in its class, undercutting the likes of GWM’s Ora hatchback currently available for $35,990 drive-away.
MG’s deal applies to the MG4 Excite 51, a car with a 51kWh battery offering about 350km of range.
A rear-mounted electric motor with 125kW and 250Nm helps the car reach 100km/h in 7.7 seconds.
The entry-level MG4 has a 10.25-inch touchscreen and 7-inch driver display hooked up to a simple four-speaker stereo.
Standard kit includes cloth seats, a reversing camera, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Though it doesn’t have a particularly flash list of features, the rear-wheel-drive MG represents one of the most dynamic options in its segment.
The MG’s sharp prices respond to competition in the class.
Several EVs have been discounted recently, including the Fiat 500e which has dropped from about $55,500 drive-away to $49,990 drive-away.
