Ford fans invited to gamble with Mustang
This is the ultimate toy for Aussie motorsport enthusiasts – and there’s every chance you can watch its price double after buying.
Ford fans confident that the Mustang will win at Mount Panorama this year have been invited to put their money where their mouth is and invest in a race car set to take on the Bathurst 1000.
Walkinshaw Andretti United has listed the Mustang raced by Chaz Mostert for sale in an auction set to finish before the famous race this year.
That means superfans can gamble on the outcome of this year’s race by purchasing a car that has a chance to win the Bathurst 1000, dramatically increasing its value.
Listed for sale by Lloyd’s Auctions, the mega Mustang has already won three races this year and currently sits second in the Supercars championship.
The listing says Mostert’s Mustang already has 16 podiums in competition.
“Race it, display it, put it in a collection, it’s ready for whatever one lucky owner desires,” the Lloyd’s Auctions listing says.
“This auction is a pre-sale, with delivery of the car to be by the end of 2025, which also means that there are plenty of opportunities for more wins to be added to its growing list of achievements, maybe even a Bathurst 1000 win, and potentially a Championship … so imagine watching your car win the Great Race!”
This isn’t the first time WAU, formerly known as the Holden Racing Team, sold a race car prior to the Bathurst 1000.
In 2021, the team auctioned off a Holden Commodore race car prior to the October classic.
It fetched $610,000 shortly before Chaz Mostert and Lee Holdsworth went on to win Bathurst, a feat that may well have pushed the car’s value into seven figure territory.
The auction is due to wrap up at 7pm on Sunday, a couple of hours after this year’s Sandown 500 endurance race takes place.
Bidding reached $175,000 on Monday night.
WAU says the car will come with its engine and transmission (which isn’t always the case for retired race cars), ready to rejoin the competitive world or serve as the ultimate track day toy for weekend warriors.
For those who don’t have the $500,000 or more (much more) likely required to take home Mostert’s Mustang, Ford’s latest Mustang GT is arriving in showrooms now.
