Chery Tiggo 7 Pro confirmed for Australia
This little known budget brand hopes to woo Aussie families with an attractive and well-equipped high-riding wagon for a very sharp price.
Australian families will have a new SUV option in time for Christmas.
Chery has announced plans to introduce its Tiggo 7 Pro in Australia before the end of the year, giving customers a new alternative in the hotly contested medium SUV segment.
Shaping up as a rival to the likes of Mazda’s CX-5, the Tiggo 7 Pro is a five-seat SUV powered by a turbocharged 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine.
The brand has kept details close to its chest.
We don’t know exactly when the Tiggo 7 will arrive, or how much it will cost.
But it is likely to require customers pay more than the Chery Omoda 5 currently priced from $32,990 drive-away.
The Omoda has recorded more than 2000 sales in Australia this year, putting it ahead of rival compact SUVs such as the Honda HR-V and Skoda Kamiq.
The new machine shapes up as a medium-sized contender in the red-hot class featuring bestsellers such as the Toyota RAV4 and Hyundai Tucson.
The Tiggo is a modern machine with a hi-tech cabin featuring twin wide-screen displays, customisable ambient lighting and plenty of driver assistance features.
The car will be available in high and low trim lines, with a choice of front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive traction.
Andy Zhang, Chery Australia managing director, said the Tiggo 7 Pro would represent value for money.
“As the Tiggo 7 Pro arrives on Australian shores in the coming months, it brings with it an impressive international sales history and an award-winning reputation for blending style, safety and technology,” he said.
“This, coupled with Chery’s commitment to delivering unmatched value to Australian new-car buyers, is set to elevate the driving experience to new heights within this category.”
The five-seat Tiggo 7 will be joined by a seven-seat cousin in the Tiggo 8.
