Hungry drivers looking for a Macca’s fix have found a new way to sort out a feed.

Some cars with tablet-like touchscreens, including the BYD Seal electric sedan, have in-built web browsers that allow owners to browse the web from the comfort of their car.

Some are using this to order takeaway food online, which swerves around police requirements that drivers not use their phone while operating a car – even when it is stopped.

Doing so could also help drivers skip the drive-through queue when ordering food, and avoid using unsanitary touchscreens in public restaurants.

A savvy driver who posted the results to a BYD owner’s group on Facebook found mixed reactions from his mates.

While some felt it was a “must try”, others said they were “not lovin’ it”.

Some suggested it was evidence that society was speeding downhill, and that the development represented “the end of civilisation as we know it”.

BYD Australia distributor EV Direct CEO David Smitherman said BYD’s rotating touchscreen is designed to be “user friendly” ensuring a driver’s most used apps are “right at their fingertips”.

“This can be particularly important for easy navigation, quick song choice - or in this driver’s case, pulling over for a sneaky bit of fast food,” he said.

But it’s not just McDonald’s within easy reach with BYD’s digital display - Smitherman explained drivers can also belt out their favourite tunes.

“There’s also a karaoke feature which is proving incredibly popular for ‘Swifties’ and other music lovers,” he said.

Looking ahead, BYD is set to roll out new software and a revamped interface soon, promising even more exciting features for both current and new vehicles.
