Audi Q8 e-tron and Q4 e-tron confirmed for Australia
This brand is preparing to launch a range of new electric cars in Australia including its cheapest model yet in a boon for luxury car buyers.
Audi is beefing up its electric car line-up with a range of new and updated models.
The luxury brand has revealed the Q8 55 e-tron, a replacement for the Audi e-tron that was the maker’s original EV.
The updates go further than just a name change, Audi has installed a massive 114kWh battery that boosts range up to 454km. A significant jump over the original e-tron SUV’s circa-350km range.
Charging is also improved with the max charge boosted by 20kW to 170kW. It can replenish the battery from 10-80 per cent in about 30 minutes via a fast DC charger.
Audi supports charging with a six-year subscription to the Chargefox network and free installation of a 7kW at home charger.
It still uses two electric motors – one on each axle delivering all-wheel drive. Power remains unchanged at 300kW and 664Nm.
The Q8 55 e-tron wears more aggressive styling with a new front end and revised rear, and is available as a regular SUV or coupe-like Sportback body styles.
Prices start at $153,900 (before on-road costs) for the standard Q8 55 e-tron. Moving to a sportback body shape raises the price tag to $165,900.
Initially Audi will also offer a well equipped Launch Edition of the SUV that costs $165,900, too.
Audi shoppers looking for a cheaper EV are in luck with the brand confirming the arrival of the Q4 e-tron in the middle of next year.
The electric compact SUV will again be available in regular SUV and Sportback body shapes.
Audi says the Q4 e-tron will be the new entry point into the Audi EV range giving buyers a more affordable option.
The Q4 e-tron is already on sale in Europe and Audi Australia confirmed they would get updated version from launch.
Australian details aren’t confirmed but in Europe it uses a 77kWh battery and has the choice of a single rear electric motor making 210kW and an all-wheel drive version using two motors to produce 250kW.
The 210kW version has an impressive driving range of 562km.
