Lanz Bulldog Tractors 101 year celebrations planned for Hamilton Pastoral Museum event

Vintage tractor enthusiasts are preparing for the upcoming 101st birthday party for the German Lanz Bulldog Tractors in October.

Forget 101 Dalmatians, and make way for 101 bulldogs – tractors that is.

To celebrate 101 years of the iconic Lanz Bulldog tractors in Australia, owners and enthusiasts across the country are shining their beloved farm tractors ahead of a special event in October in Victoria’s west.

Lanz Bulldog Tractors a enthusiasts are aiming to get at least 101 of the tractors in the one location for a once in a lifetime photograph at the Hamilton Pastoral Museum’s History in Action event on October 8 and 9.

Sale Vintage Tractor Club organiser Alan Bailey said he was expecting Lanz Bulldog Tractors to come to Hamilton from all corners of the country.

“They are legendary and unique tractors, built in Germany and played an important role in Australian farming,” he said.

“The tractors were versatile, they varied from orchard tractors to big harvest tractors and helped during the depression years because they could be run cheaply.

“They were single cylinders and were mostly used around the Western Districts and Riverina and Mallee and all over Australia too.”

The SVTC are planning to take 10-12 tractors on three truckloads of tractors to the event which will also include the annual tractor pull classic.

Daisy’s Garden Supplies owner Evan Mulcahy has his own collection of restored and vintage Lanz Bulldog Tractors spending time making sure they remain in ideal condition.

Bulldog tractors in the event will receive a metal plaque to commemorate the event.

The Hamilton Pastoral Museum with the help of the Hamilton Pastoral Society is running the History in Action event for the second time this year.

A similar event was held in May this year, which includes events such as ploughing demonstrations, the Grand Parade, miniature railway, vintage vehicles, engines, food and much more.
