Kuhn takes covers off new large-square baler
A brand new baler from Kuhn is making its Australian debut at the company’s expo in South Australia this week.
KUHN’S new SB 1290 iD large-square baler makes its first appearance on Australian soil at this week’s Kuhn Expo in South Australia, giving visitors a unique chance to get down and dirty with the innovative new machine.
The SB 1290 iD (for intelligent-DENSITY) is claimed to produce bales with up to 25 per cent higher density than a conventional 120x90 baler, boosting handling efficiency, reducing transport costs and generally making for a more profitable baling operation.
Kuhn Expo visitors will witness its much-touted abilities as part of a comprehensive series of machine workshops and demonstrations planned for the event.
“We’re really looking forward to showing off this machine and especially being able to do demonstrations with it,” said Kuhn Australia marketing manager and baler product specialist Michael Murer. “We haven’t been able to really run it in Australia yet and that’s one of the main reasons we’ve brought it here.”
The SB 1290 iD demo will form part of a wider hay-and-forage machinery demonstration that will start with untouched lucerne paddock and cycle through mowing, tedding, raking, baling and wrapping, ending with completed bales. These will be sold at market price and the proceeds donated to a rural charity.
“It’s something we can’t do at a field day because at a field day you’ve got static machines,” Mr Murer said.
“The beauty of the Kuhn Expo is it allows us to actually show what we can do.”
A comprehensive tillage-machinery demonstration will form the other “live” aspect of Kuhn Expo, highlighted by the first Australian appearance of Kuhn’s new Optimer L12000 disc cultivator. All up, the machine count will number more than 30.
Kuhn Expo visitors will be able to bid anonymously on machines in a silent auction. But not the SB 1290 iD — Kuhn only recently got its hands on it and hasn’t quite finished with it yet. “This one is not going to be for sale in the auction,” Mr Murer said. “If somebody wants one they’ll have to speak to their local dealer.”
Kuhn Expo 2020 begins in Naracoorte today for dealers and tomorrow for customers.
