Great Plains says it has updated its Spartan II triple disc, no-till air drill range to meet the evolving needs of the Australian market.

The seeding and tillage specialist says operating in Australia’s tough conditions, since its release here in 2018, have inspired enhancements to the NTA607-2 Spartan to increase the machine’s durability and ease of use.

Great Plains’ product manager John Moloney said customers would reap significant rewards from the improvements.

“Our goal is to continuously improve our products to create the best possible user experience,” Mr Moloney said.

“A revised hydraulic circuit design further optimises the proven active row-unit down pressure system as well as folding to ensure every seed is planted at the correct depth to maximise germination.

“Given the Spartan’s popularity in fodder production, the MY2020 NTA607-2’s blockage monitor system has been optimised to work with small, low-rate pasture seeds such as rye grass, which can often be difficult to detect.”

A software update also supports the use of prescription maps for variable rate application to ensure growers get the highest value from every seed.

Other improvements include upgrades to a more durable 18 PLY rear castor tyre and a redesigned row-unit mounting bracket, which Mr Moloney said increases durability and reduces maintenance requirements.

The Spartan II is available with 6-inch or 7.5-inch (15cm or 19cm) row spacing.

Mr Moloney said alternate row seeding, individual row shut-off and individual row depth control are all possible, and all machines have double-shoot capability.

“We’re very excited to bring this updated Spartan II to the Australian market,” Mr Moloney said.

“The new enhancements will help our customers overcome the challenges of operating in a tough Australian landscape,” he said.

The NTA607-2 Spartan is priced at $274,00 (+GST) for the 6m Spartan II and $390,000 (+GST) for the 9m.
