NEW fixtures and old traditions will be celebrated at the 58th annual Wimmera Machinery Field Days.

The addition of educational seminars across the three days, as well as a machinery auction and exciting tractor-pulling competition will attract new interest from the 15,000 expected attendees.

And the regulars will have something to look forward to with crowd favourite events in the Country Lifestyle Pavilion and across the 1000 sites at the Longrenong venue.

Following the success of last year’s first ever twilight event, the 2020 Twilight Ag Expo will be held again on the first day of the field days.

It will see gates open later to the public, with free entry after 3pm and plenty of food and drink options available to make a night out of it.

Field days manager Murray Wilson said the extended hours meant visitors could experience more than in previous years.

“To support this exciting new format the WMFD committee will be hosting special features and extra attractions during the twilight evening,” Mr Wilson said. “Features of the Twilight Ag Expo for 2020 will be the inaugural field days footy club tractor pull as well as live music, Iron Freestyle Quad MX stunt show, entertainment and performances, gourmet food and outdoor dining, Prickly Moses mobile brewery, helicopter rides, exhibitor demonstrations and heaps of attractions for families.”

Among the activities to keep children entertained will be live performances from The Mik Maks, an animal farm and dedicated areas with plenty of activities to participate in.

Another exciting initiative introduced this year will be the Field Days Dealers Ag Machinery and Equipment Auction, which will be held on the final day of the event.

All exhibitors have been invited to supply items for the auction and those up for grabs will be on display throughout the field days.

Interested buyers will be able to place their bids on Thursday with a free “come back” pass for pre-registered bidders.

Seminars and presentations by industry experts will also join this year’s line up, with presentations across the three days held in the new Ag Futures Pavilion.

The field days are considered one of the biggest agricultural events on the region’s calendar, and the committee hopes it will attract people from across Australia and overseas and provide something for everyone.

“Large-scale agriculture trade shows, such as the Wimmera Machinery Field Days, provide a unique forum for people and business to gather and discuss farm-technology and new developments, create networks, socialise, rekindle friendships and business relationships and stay in touch with industry advances,” Mr Wilson said.

PRIZES PULL TEAMS IN

IT WILL be a show of strength on the first day of the field days as football clubs across the Wimmera battle it out in the inaugural Tractor Pull competition.

For the ultimate pre-season bonding activity and chance to win a share in $5000 in cash prizes, local football teams can register with teams of 12 to race against other clubs to drag the 10-12 tonne tractor across the line.

Natimuk United was the first team to register for the competition and vice president Adam Blake said they hoped other clubs would join them.

Manager of the Wimmera field days Murray Wilson said it would be a great opportunity for clubs to raise funds.

The competition will be held on Tuesday from 5pm to 7pm.
