AGRICULTURAL telehandlers are in high demand this year, as farmers realise the productivity and safety gains they bring to farm businesses.

Claas Harvest Centre product specialist for the Claas Scorpion range, Blair McAlwee, said the wide range of implements including buckets, forks, bale handlers and silage grabs make them perfect for even the tightest areas on farms.

“You can raise, tip, lower and return in just a few seconds – all automatically, if you want – so you can get jobs done more quickly and without stress,” Mr McAlwee said.

“It’s all about productivity – a saving of just a few minutes a day can equate to a few hours a week, and ultimately a few hours a year.”

When shopping for any new machine it’s important to consider safety and comfort. Telehandlers benefit from a much lower centre of gravity, four evenly sized tyres and increased visibility.

The new range of Scorpions were developed in partnership with leading materials handling manufacturer, Liebherr, and offers enhanced performance, handling, comfort and safety.

Mr McAlwee said the Scorpion 732 or 736 models are the “go-to” machine for dairy farmers, as they are compact, highly manoeuvrable all-rounders that have a maximum reach of seven metres and a lifting capacity of 3.2 and 3.6 tonnes respectively.

Meanwhile, the 741 and 746 are typically chosen by broadacre farmers. The two are the same machine under the skin, but with lifting capacities of 4.1 and 4.6 tonnes respectively.

All four models are powered by a 136hp Deutz Stage IIIA (Tier 3) diesel engine equipped with an advanced management system for more efficient operation and transport.

All models can be operated in front-wheel, four-wheel, crab-steering and optional manual crab-steering mode, which allows the front axle to be steered manually.

The three smaller models are equipped with 460mm diameter tyres as standard, while the 746 can be fitted with 500mm diameter tyres for improved stability and reduced ground pressure when working with heavier loads.

All Scorpion orders placed before the end of November will receive a free Performance Package, including eight LED working lights, a seat cover and work pack.
