The Seymour Poultry Club on show and selling birds at the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo
IF YOU want to buy Brown Leghorn chicks or learn what keeps a Silver Laced Wyandotte happy, then visit the Seymour Poultry Club stand.
IF YOU want to buy Brown Leghorn chicks or would like to know what keeps a Silver Laced Wyandotte happy, then make sure the Seymour Poultry Club stand at next week's Seymour Alternative Farming Expo is on your itinerary.
The Seymour Poultry Club is a regular exhibitor at the expo and will be showing and selling birds, including peacocks, turkeys and rare breeds of chicken and waterfowl between 9am-5pm on February 14, 15 and 16.
About 200 birds representing 30-40 breeds can be bought at the expo including Guinea Fowl, Araucanas, Light Suffolks, White Leghorns, Silkies, Old English Bantams, Silver Laced Wyandottes and Gold Laced Wyandottes.
The Wyandottes are medium-sized, docile and dual-purpose birds that are kept for their brown eggs and meat.
Araucanas are a hybrid of two South American breeds that originated in Chile.
Experts will be on hand to discuss the breeds and give advice about selection, breeding, feeding and how to care for your birds.
Poultry Club Secretary James Sexton said the club supplied boxes for carrying the birds.
"Many customers bring their own cages and boxes, which is a good idea because there is always a lot of impulse buying when people see the birds and we can run out of boxes," he said.
Nearby exhibitors offer a range of poultry equipment so it's easy to find whatever you need."
Purchased birds are cared for and watered every hour at the Seymour Poultry Club stand until the customer is ready to leave the Expo.
Club President Enola Halpin said interest in poultry is increasing throughout Central Victoria, and the Club has a growing membership including children.
