FARM World will come alive this year with both new and old events, including a Food & Fibre Fiesta, Equestrian Expo and Entertainment Arena. With so much to do and see, you’ll need to plan your time wisely so nothing is missed. Here’s our list of the top 10 things to do at Farm World 2018.
1. FARM WORLD’S FITTEST FARMER
This exciting new event will run on Sunday to determine Gippsland’s fittest farmer. Each of the six Gippsland regions are being asked to put forward a team of four farmers to compete in the event. Who will take out the crown?
2. BIG GIPPSLAND JERSEY MILK OFF CHALLENGE
The Milk Off is back again with some fierce competition. The challenge, consisting of timed milking challenges (one teat, one hand, one minute, most milk collected), will also be teamed with commercial dairy farming educational presentations.
3. DRONE ZONE
Here’s one for the tech-savvy. A new component to Farm World this year is the dedicated Drone Zone, featuring the latest drone developments in both technology and practice. It will showcase how drones are such a game-changer for agribusiness across the globe.
4. HOW-TO DEMONSTRATIONS AND WORKSHOPS
Farm World is launching its first Food & Fibre Fiesta with free demonstrations and workshops on Saturday and Sunday. Learn how to turn low-value lamb cuts into delicious smallgoods, make vegan jerky and turn beer waste into high-protein and high-fibre cookies.
5. ANIMALS
There are plenty of animal attractions for kids of all ages, including working dog demonstrations, an animal nursery and the Animals of Oz Show. The interactive and educational show will feature Australian native animals — perhaps a crocodile or two!
6. SATURDAY NIGHT EXTRAVAGANZA
This new equestrian event features some of Australia’s best riders and their most agile horses performing in race-against-the-clock speed jumping championships.
7. CHAINSAW CARVING
There’s plenty to see and do at the Entertainment Arena but chainsaw carving is one thing not to be missed. You might also like to check out the whip cracking and 4WD activations.
8. TELSTRA WOMEN IN AG LUNCHEON
This luncheon will see some of the country’s most brilliant speakers engage, inspire and motivate guests to think outside the box and believe in their abilities. The lunch will be held at 12pm on Thursday, 12 April.
Tickets can be bought online at lardnerpark.com.au and are $50, including entry to Farm World, Telstra Women in Ag presentations, lunch, gift bag and a glass of wine or soft drink on arrival.
9. SHOPPING
Check out the shopping opportunities in the Baw Baw and General Interest pavilions. There’s even a parcel delivery service.
10. SCOUTING ACTIVITIES
Here’s an opportunity for the kids to engage in knot tying and other cool things scouts like to do. Parents can sit and watch from the family rest and relaxation area.
