FARMERS from each Gippsland shire are preparing to battle it out for the title of Farm World’s Fittest Farmer.

Teams of four from the six shires will participate in a series of heats run by local trainers, culminating in a grand final on Sunday afternoon.

Along with testing the farmers’ skills, fitness, speed and adeptness, the competition also aims to bring much-needed awareness to mental and physical wellbeing in agricultural jobs.

Jo Kingwill, from Lardner Park, said one shire had already stated its claim to the crown.

“Baw Baw farmers have put the challenge out, that they are the fittest farmers in Gippsland,” Jo said.

“Will they be proven right or wrong?”

Revellers can find out who takes the cake on Sunday at the Entertainment Arena.
