FIFTY-FIVE is the magic number for Farm World this year.

This year marks the 55th year of the event, with activities for all of its 55,000 expected guests.

This year, organisers are taking advantage of the school holidays, after last year’s event drew in lower than average attendance.

“Last year it wasn’t in the school holidays and the numbers were down. This year and going forward, it will be in the school holidays,” Lardner Park marketing manager Jo Kingwill said.

Two new areas will be introduced at Lardner Park this year. An Entertainment Zone will feature marching bands, whip cracking and working dogs, while at the Drone Zone, there will be demonstrations of the technology changing the game across industries.

Visitors will be pleased to see some much-loved exhibits and activities returning, including the Big Gippsland Jersey Milk Off, equestrian events and the animal nursery.

Food, Fibre, Future is this year’s theme, with demonstrations and workshops showcasing products, food produce and information sessions.

Demonstrations and free workshops will run throughout the weekend, on subjects such as turning low-value meat cuts into smallgoods, cooking bush tucker and turning beer waste into cookies.

The Women in Ag luncheon will be a feature of the Thursday once again, with a line-up of inspirational women to listen to while enjoying a bite to eat and glass of wine or soft drink. Tickets must be pre-booked and include entry for the day.

There will be more than 850 exhibitors covering interests of every visitor.

Early bird tickets, saving $2, are available online until April 11 at 5pm, or full price at the gate. See details below.
