Farm World 2021: Schedule of new and favourite lifestyle events

Visitors to Farm World this year will have the chance to see the event by twilight in a new fixture to bring together significant ag players. Here’s what else you can expect.

Megan Williams of Camel Milk Co will be a guest speaker at the Women in Ag lunch.

WOMEN who are making a difference across rural and regional Australia will be the focus of Farm World’s dedicated luncheon once again this year.

Three inspirational speakers will be featured, each bringing a different industry voice to the signature event.

Among the line-up is camel milk producer Megan Williams who runs a camel milking herd at Kyabram.

Born and bred on a dairy farm, Mrs Williams had a desire to do something different in the dairy industry and after months of research and training took the unusual step into camel milk.

Mrs Williams and her husband have almost 300 camels on their 194ha property, complete with a purpose-built processing room.

She said she was looking forward to sharing her experience of breaking into the industry.

“I’ll be talking a little bit about my background and a little bit about some of the challenges and hurdles that we’ve faced in the new business that we have,” she said.

She is honoured to be apart of the event at this year’s Farm World and hopes it will resonate with attendees.

”What I hope the attendees get out of it is hearing something quite different and if something I say can help them at a particular point in their business it will be a good day,” she said.

Joining Mrs Williams on the panel is Frauke Bolten-Boshammer, who will be sharing her inspirational story of beginning a business through change and tragedy.

Ms Bolten-Boshammer immigrated from Germany to Australia and was faced with an unimaginable challenge when her husband died suddenly just three years later.

She decided to stay in the outback rather than head home and forged her own way in the jewellery industry.

Decades later, her business, Kimberley Fine Diamonds, is now one of Australia‘s largest

suppliers of the exquisite Pink diamond — one of the rarest diamonds in the world.

The third speaker will be Got You Girl founder and creative director Sophie Stewart.

Ms Stewart is passionate about creating conversations about topics all girls have to deal with, without stigma or judgment.

Got You Girl was founded as a place to provide information on these issues for females of all ages.

Since 2019, more than 160 women have opened up to the Got You Girl community.

Sponsored by Telstra, the lunch will be held from 11.45pm to 2.30pm on Friday,

March 26.

Tickets must be purchased online, and include entry to Farm World, lunch and a drink on arrival.

TWILIGHT EVENT

FARMERS, ag equipment dealers and locals have a chance to network and share ideas at a special Farm World twilight event on Saturday, March 27.

The “Yarn at the Farm” evening, hosted by the Commonwealth Bank from 5pm to 7pm on Saturday, aims to bring together significant players in the local agricultural community, politicians, the Lardner Park board and CommBank representatives to discuss issues affecting primary producers and farming businesses.

“This event is all about farmers and our community having a yarn,” said Lardner Park chief executive Craig Debnam.

“Farm World has always been the time to discuss the latest dairy, milk, beef and sheep prices, the opportunities or challenges of the ever-changing seasons; and, the latest equipment and technology advances or improving farm productivity,” he said.

“Lardner Park recognises this has been a little lost in recent years as the focus turned to lifestyle and leisure activities and we’d like to get back to our roots and provide a chance for farmers to engage, from across the road, over the hill or across the district.”

The local Lions Club will run a sausage sizzle at the event.

Farmers interested in attending should contact their local ag dealer.

COOKING CONNECTION

AN INTERACTIVE kitchen and cooking expo will take centre stage of the Events Centre on Saturday and Sunday of Farm World.

Spearheaded by String and Salt cooking school, the expo will include interactive demonstrations of traditional techniques including cheese making, butchering, preserving, salami making and scone making, all tightly linked to the Return to Heritage theme.

String & Salt’s David Cann said visitors would be able to watch and learn from specialists from the cooking school and special guest presenters.

“It is a chance for people to watch demonstrations, learn something and view the heritage of farming,” Mr Cann said. “We understand the importance of Farm World as an event. Last year was very difficult and this will be one of the first major events to return since COVID.

“As a small business over the last 20 years, Farm World has certainly impacted positively on our business and this is a way we can give back to the event.”

Mr Cann said the cooking demonstrations were a way to expand what Farm World offered patrons, but maintain strong connections to the heritage of farming and food.

CWA members will also be part of the cooking expo, where they will display wool spinning skills, demonstrate home-style baking and preserving techniques. They will also sell scones.
