THE Amazone Pantera 4502-H self-propelled sprayer is making its field days debut on the Claas Harvest Centre Echuca site.

Designed for controlled traffic farming systems in a range of crops, the sprayer has a maximum ground clearance of 1.7m and an adjustable track width from 2.1 to 2.6m.

“Operators can quickly adjust the track width and clearance height of the machine just by pressing a button,” said dealer principal Brendan Caffery.

It features a 218hp Tier 3 engine, 4500-litre spray tank, Super-L2 booms from 24m to 40m, automatic hydro-pneumatic suspension, speed-regulated all-wheel steering system and electronic traction control.

All key driving operations, including speed, braking and steering mode, are controlled using a multi-function joystick.

“With the joystick pushed forward, the machine operates to the desired field or road speed up to 50km/h,” Mr Caffery said.

“The driver pulls the joystick back to engage the dual circuit hydraulic auxiliary braking system.

“In most cases, the foot brake is not required to reduce speed.”

The joystick also controls the key spraying functions, including boom height and fold, application rate, boundary nozzles, section and headland control.

The ISObus-compatible Amatron 3 terminal automatically regulates the preset application rate.

At headlands, Amatron 3 automatically switches the sprayer off, raises the boom and engages all-wheel steering.

Back in the crop, the steering reverts to two-wheel mode.

GPS section control and guidance systems are also available.

Also on display will be a new-season Claas Lexion 770 with Terra Trac combine harvester, which won one of the many Machine of the Year awards at Germany’s Agritechnica last year. The current series has a number of improvements to its engine cooling, residual grain separation, residue management and electronic control systems.

These include an automatic crop flow control that monitors the rotational speeds of the engine, the APS threshing mechanism and the twin longitudinal Roto Plus rotors.

“Lexion is already famous for being able to work to its full capacity even under difficult harvesting conditions,” Mr Caffery said.

“The feeder, threshing, separation and grain tank discharge systems now shut down automatically if critical load peaks are detected.”

Claas has also improved its Cemos Automatic system, which optimises harvesting operations for maximum throughout, grain quality or fuel efficiency.

“Initially available for wheat, barley and canola, the system can now be used to optimise harvesting operations in maize and soy beans,” Mr Caffery said.

“It is now controlled directly via the Cebis operating system rather than a separate terminal.”

Also at the site will be a line-up of Claas tractors and forage harvesting equipment, Amazone cultivation, drilling, spraying and spreading technology and Seed Hawk precision air seeders.
