THE sport of extreme cowboy racing is growing in Tasmania.
The Tasmanian Extreme Cowboy Association will put on displays at Agfest again this year as it strives to set up a southern group to complement its 70-strong northern membership.
Lee Davis, who established the association 2½ years ago, said the fast-growing sport involved traversing obstacles on horseback at speed.
“At the moment we hold events from Batten Park in Ulverstone to Junction Park near Launceston, but we are trying to get a club going in the south,” he said.
Last year at Agfest the association took out the best arena display prize.
The association has club meets each month and they are always booked out.
“Most people are just pleasure riders who want to be involved due to its horsemanship elements,” Mr Davis said.
The Tasmanian Extreme Cowboy Association will be putting on demonstrations each day in the main arena.
