The all-new Claas Scorpion agricultural telescopic loaders made their Australian debut last season with enhanced features, performance and flexibility.

Claas says the new Scorpion range was developed in partnership with leading materials handling manufacturer, Liebherr, and it has been completely redesigned to deliver even greater handling performance, efficiency, comfort and safety.

Improvements include the addition of the Dynamic Power engine management system, the Smart Loading driver-assistance system for easy and precise control, automatic parking brake, optional controlled crab steering and a new cab configuration.

Claas Harvest Centre product specialist Blair McAlwee said the addition of the larger Scorpion 960 model has provided customers with even more choice.

“They all have improved working hydraulics and increased lifting capacity, enabling optimal handling performance and productivity,” Mr McAlwee said. “The Scorpion 732 is a compact, highly manoeuvrable ‘all-rounder’ that has an above-average lifting capacity of more than three tonnes.

“At the other end of the scale, the Scorpion 960 boasts a six tonne lifting capacity and a maximum lift height of well over 8m.”

Another major improvement in the new series is the high-performance drive, which guarantees particularly convenient and precise manoeuvring.

“The Varipower or Varipower Plus transmission has three speed ranges, which are easy to control using range selection on the joystick,” Mr McAlwee said.

“An electrohydraulic parking brake is automatically activated if the driver leaves the seat, the machine stops or the engine is switched off.

“When the driver puts a foot on the accelerator to travel in a set direction, the parking brake is automatically deactivated.”

While the entire range is powered by Deutz Stage IIIA (Tier 3) diesel engines, the 732, 736, 741 and 746 develop 136hp, while the 756 and 960 have a maximum rating of 156hp. The new models have two engine management systems for smooth and efficient operation and transport. In addition to the front, all-wheel and crab-steering modes, all models come with a fourth steering mode — manual crab-steering.

All Scorpions are equipped with quick-release headstock, which is compatible with older attachments. The headstock has 50mm diameter locking pins, which offer low wear. The cabs in the new models have also been redesigned with uninterrupted all-round visibility. “All the important switches and controls are logically arranged and are easy to operate,” Mr McAlwee said.

The Scorpion range is priced from $158,000 (+GST). For more details, visit claasharvestcentre.com
