An Angus bull from the Branson family’s Banquet Angus stud has sold for $230,000 today in what is believed to be a record price for a Victorian stud.

In a stunning result for the Mortlake-based stud, the huge price tag was paid early in the sale for lot 11, Banquet Tom Cruise T220.

The July 2022-drop bull was sold to Bannaby Angus at Myrtleville, NSW via Nutrien Bathurst, NSW.

Tom Cruise T220 was described in the sale catalogue as the complete package with “a unique and powerful combination of pedigree, phenotype, performance and docility”.

“T220 is very muscular, big loined, wide topped, rugged, extremely thick and exceptionally quiet,” the catalogue notes said.

The bull was sired by Rambo R230, which the Bransons bought in a partnership for $70,000. Tom Cruise T220 has figures of +2.9kg for birth weight but +144kg for 600-day weight, +7sq cm for eye muscle area and +4mm for intramuscular fat.

Banquet offered 94 bulls at the sale, sold for an average of $19,127. PTIC heifers were sold for an average of $3125.
