How a 12-year-old shore 130 sheep in a day
Shearing 130 sheep in a day is the latest achievement for one of the nation’s youngest - and best - shearers. See the video of him in action.
Charlie Dunn may be only 12 years old but he’s already fleecing the competition when it comes to his real passion: shearing.
He’s rightly earned the moniker as a young gun in the sheep world after recently shearing 130 lambs in a day.
That’s no mean feat for the farmer’s son from Culcairn in southern NSW, who has been wielding a handpiece since he was in kindergarten.
He’s gradually built his tally, shearing on the family’s farm and even helping out on other properties nearby when he’s not attending school as a year seven student at St Paul’s College at Walla Walla, NSW.
His mother, Donna Dunn, said she was very conscious of his young body and doing too much but Charlie “just wants to shear”.
“He really loves shearing and I think it is important to show that people want to be part of such a great industry,” Mrs Dunn said.
As for Charlie, he’s got no tallies in his mind about how many he wants to shear, but rather that he does a good job with every sheep.
And his reputation is starting to spread further afield. Charlie will be doing shearing demonstrations at the Wodonga Show this weekend, earning him some pocket money.
