Falkiner Field station to be leased
A major asset owned by Australian Wool Innovation is to be leased out. Find out why.
The leasing of a major asset owned by Australian Wool Innovation will not preclude its use as a shearer training centre.
AWI is calling for tenders for its Falkiner Memorial Field Station, which covers about 3100 hectares of country between Deniliquin and Conargo, NSW.
But the lease agreement will require continued access by AWI for certain areas of the property.
A spokesman for AWI said the organisation was working to establish a permanent ongoing wool harvesting training facility at the property and would require the lessee’s co-operation in establishing and maintaining this service to the wool industry.
The site has already played host to a field day on various alternative shearing techniques and has been touted as a possible site for training shearers, especially those that might come to the industry from overseas.
The lease will allow the use of a mix of irrigation and grazing country on the property, which is about 20km north of Deniliquin.
About 400ha is developed for irrigation and AWI holds an irrigation water license of 2377 megalitres and delivery entitlements of 1973 megalitres of general security with 100 per cent allocation, which will may also be able to be used by the successful lease.
AWI is calling for expressions of interest to use the property for between one and five years, with proposals due by April 14.
