Why Bay of Fires is Australia’s best beach of 2025
Almost 12,000 beaches across the nation vied for the title but only one can come out on top. SEE THE LIST
With its rare orange rocks, golden sand stretching for miles along a pristine coastline and welcoming blue water — Bay of Fires has been crowned Best Australian Beach for 2025.
Almost 12,000 spots nationwide vied for the title in the list compiled by beach expert Brad Farmer AM and supported by Tourism Australia.
For the first time in 16 years since the list first started, Tasmania has come out on top.
Despite the often chillier conditions, Mr Fraser said the Bay of Fires was worthy of the coveted title.
“I spent plenty of time in Tasmania assessing the beaches and in the end there were so many incredible options I couldn’t even settle on one which is why — for the first time — I’m awarding the best beach to a cluster of neighbouring beach bays in the Bay of Fires,” Mr Farmer said.
“They say the cold water is good for you, but even if you’re not up for a refreshing dip there is still plenty to do and see along this 10 kilometre stretch of coast.
“It’s a location made for photography or painting, fishing and surfing.”
It’s the only beach from the Apple Isle to make the top ten list, which last year included Cockle Creek at third place.
New South Wales’ Woolgoolga and Norfolk Island Emily Bay Lagoon rounded out the top three for 2025.
Mr Farmer said picking the best from the large list was no easy feat.
Federal Trade and Tourism Minister Don Farrell congratulated Tasmania for winning the title for the first time.
“It’s a beautiful part of the world,” he said.
“This year’s list showcases to the world what Aussies already know — that Bondi and Brighton are great, but it’s worth the journey to see some truly unique beaches in regional Australia.”
