Actor Travis Fimmel has worked across the world for more than 20 years, but his next endeavour has brought him home in support of farmers’ wellbeing.

Actor Travis Fimmel has worked across the world for more than 20 years, but his next endeavour has brought him home to country Australia.

A fourth-generation farmer and seasoned Hollywood veteran, Travis is calling on Australians to get behind the ‘Flanno for a Farmer’ fundraiser this month.

“Every farmer goes through hardships, physical or mental, and wearing flannos for the day just lets them know that people think about them and appreciate what they do and what they do for the country,” Travis said.

Flanno for a Farmer is aiming to see one million Aussies in flannel shirts and donate $5 on or before August 23, with every dollar going to Farm Angels, who provide support for Australian producers in times of hardship, via financial assistance, mental wellbeing support, food hampers and more.

Raised on a dairy farm in Lockington, Travis remembers his father shooting their whole mob of sheep due to drought when he was young. Meanwhile, only two years ago his brother’s lucerne crops were destroyed by floods.

“Farmers love their jobs and the country, but it can still be a difficult way to make money … so it’s about giving some gratitude to farmers and (raising) awareness of their struggles,” he said.

Travis is encouraging everyone to post pictures of themselves in their best flannos on August 23 in support of the “heart and backbone of Australia, the farmers”.

“Australia was built on agriculture, and it’s great that other people can support farmers, because farmers have been supporting them since day one.”
