Pyers’ classic car auction gains motoring enthusiast interest

Don and Ray Pyers in Victoria’s far southwest were known for their eclectic car collection. Now it’s going under the hammer.

Known for their love of vehicles with more than a few miles on the clock, they were the Blues Brothers of Victoria’s far southwest.

Now, years after the death of Harrow farmers Don and Ray Pyers, their automotive collection will go under the hammer for charity.

The bachelor brothers wanted the hospitals that cared them in their final years - Grampians Health Edenhope and the Harrow Bush Nursing Centre - to be the beneficiaries of their multifaceted motor vehicle collection.

Among the items on offer are a 1963-64 Triumph TR4; 1934 Singer Le Mans; 1929 Singer Junior; Riley RM, a Jaguar, Honda S600 Coupe and a Land Rover.

Harrow Bush Nursing Centre health services manager Ann Vaughan said Don and Ray were much-loved around the tiny town near the South Australian border.

“It’s a real treasure trove of motoring items – both Don and Ray spent many, many years working on these vehicles, restoring them to their past glories,” Ms Vaughan said.

“Don and Ray moved to Harrow in the 1970s and became well known in the district for their love of cars.

“It’s such a generous donation back to the community. My lasting memory of Don is seeing him tinkering away on one of his vehicles in his 90s. He was a dedicated fellow, even in his final years.”

Along with the classic cars, a range of other mechanical items will be auctioned including tractors, a silo, wood splitter, bale loader, a band saw, engine crane as well as automotive panels and parts.

Martin Evans Auctions is co-ordinating the clearing sale, with an onsite viewing on August 9 from 12 noon to 2pm.

More details are available via meauctions.com.au with the auction live online on August 10 from 10am.
