ONCE upon a time camping was all about sandy sheets, mosquitos and a deflated air mattress, but fast-forward to 2017 and it's the year of the safari tent; and it's taking glamping to the next level.

Real beds, high ceilings, proper flooring, lamps, ceiling fans, the lot. Someone needs to tell BCF’s Barry that this is livin’.

Flash Camp first brought its teepee-like luxury tents to North Stradbroke Island in 2016 but 10 of them have been welcomed back to Adder Rock Camping Ground this summer as permanent fixtures.

The mini-village of tents by the beachfront is a slice of luxury in an idyllic natural space and it’s sure to change your mind about camping.

For $99 a night twin share, it’s a small price to pay for a hotel suite in the sand, and with a pub just up the road and a few restaurants to indulge the senses, you’ll probably offend the rough-and-tough campers if you actually call it camping… but you’ll be too busy absorbing the sunset from your hammock to notice!

Getting to North Straddie is a sinch; just jump on the ferry at Cleveland and it takes you there.

With on-site mini golf, boat ramps and playground, it’s a great one if you’ve got the kids in tow.
