THE Windaroo Junior Golf Club has had a big year to date. The first of its new junior golf program, the club has relied heavily on local sponsors, giving kids the opportunity to develop their skills over time.
At present, there are 35 kids involved, with a third considered to be beginners (aged 5-9), a third considered to be intermediate (aged 10-12) and the final third considered to be advanced (aged 13-17).
With the help of the local IGA Windaroo, donating $3,100 as part of IGA’s Community Chest, The Windaroo Junior Golf Club has funded one coaching session per week, per student for the last twelve months. Boasting four different squad groups, consisting of 8-9 kids in each, juniors now recieve one-on-one coaching and training which enables them to receive much closer attention and training.
QUOTE FROM WINDAROO “The donation from IGA Windaroo has been fantastic. The support has enabled us to provide weekly coaching sessions for our junior squads in small groups for two hours, once a week throughout the year, and provide them with the dedicated training and coaching they deserve. We want to thank IGA Windaroo for their support of the Windaroo Junior Golf Club.”
Peter Johnstone, President Windaroo Golf Club
Every day across the country, IGA Community Chest raises funds to support local communities, charities and other worthwhile causes. It could be in response to a major event like floods or bush fires, or something as simple as new golf balls for a local club such as Windaroo. The process, however, remains the same - by purchasing a product with the IGA Community Chest logo on the label, a percentage is credited to that store’s account.
While it’s a new relationship between The Windaroo Junior Golf Club and IGA, it’s not the case for Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball Club. MCDFNL seeks to inclusively develop a strong, sustainable and vibrant framework, encouraging football and netball as sports of choice to all in the Goldfields VIC region. With 14 clubs in the region, consisting of 140 teams across junior and senior grades, the club also had 1,600 players and 300,000 spectators at their games in 2017 alone.
Working alongside the SUPA IGA Maryborough for the past ten years, the club has kept costs down, using their local supermarket as their exclusive supplier throughout finals series.
“The donation from SUPA IGA Maryborough has enabled us to keep overall club fees and costs down,” says Aaron Nunn, Commercial and Regional Operations Manager for the Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League. “We are so grateful for the support from our local SUPA IGA in Maryborough, and we wouldn’t be in a position to operate our League as efficiently as we do today without it.”
