February is arguably the best time of year in Melbourne. It’s warm, sunny, and perfect for long days spent outside with your family and friends.
After the rush of the summer break, it can be hard to settle into the back-to-school routine, especially when you’re trying to find fun activities everyone can enjoy on weekends.
WHY NOT TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT WITH YOUR FAMILY?
On Saturday 9 February, Caulfield Racecourse is hosting C.F. Orr Stakes Family Day, the first Group 1 race day of the year, one of the most popular events on the racing calendar.
It’s an event full of entertainment that the whole family can enjoy, with plenty of fun activities, rides and performances across the day. The “Bondi Sands Beach Club” will be open for kids to bring their boardie’s and enjoy a relaxed day in the pool.
Conveniently set up beside the track, so you won’t miss the excitement of the horses racing past as you dip your toes in the sand, relax by the water and enjoy the live entertainment from the deck.
Tickets are $15 for adults but kids under 16 can get in for free. Alternatively, if you join the Clip Clop Club, you’ll get access to three family days with free entry for mum and dad.
Gates open at 11:15am and the big race - the 1400-metre C.F. Orr Stakes - will take place at approximately 4:45pm. It’s the perfect opportunity for mum and dad to have a flutter and perhaps some bubbles.
ALTERNATIVELY, IT’S A PERFECT DAY OUT FOR MUM AND DAD
Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes Day on Saturday 23 February is your chance. It’s the pinnacle of the summer calendar and features Victoria’s richest two-year-old event.
The $1.5 million, 1200-metre Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes runs at 4:05pm, along with two other Group 1 races - the 1100-metre Ladbrokes Oakleigh Plate and the 1400-metre Futurity Stakes - which makes it a wonderful chance to dress up, place a few bets, and enjoy Caulfield’s hospitality.
The Veuve Clicquot Lawn is back by popular demand, featuring a unique combination of the season’s hottest style with premium champagne, live music, uninterrupted track views and a gourmet all-day grazing menu by chef Tommy Collins. Tickets are $265 for members or $285 for the general public, which includes admission to the racecourse.
