While you’ve got a good handle of your strengths (like styling an outfit or crunching numbers), translating passions into career paths can be a little confusing. To make the waters even murkier, there are a bunch of different degrees and courses you probably didn’t know existed, or need an ATAR for, which unlocks a range of options and is key to making the right decision about where to kick-start your career.
TAFE NSW offers a number of degrees and other higher education courses, developed in consultation with academics and industry experts. TAFE NSW degrees ensure students get both the practical and theoretical knowledge needed to succeed in their chosen career, which means you’ll be workplace-ready when you graduate. So, before locking down a degree you’re not so sure about, check these five, exciting study options below.
BACHELOR OF 3D ART AND ANIMATION
Used to create and portray digital worlds, the Bachelor of 3D Art and Animation develops highly-creative, technically-skilled 3D design professionals by equipping them with the creative, technical, communication and analytical skills needed for a successful career. The course itself will prepare students for a career as a 3D and visual effect artist and animator, but, can also lead to roles such as 3D concept or pre-visualisation, a 3D modeller on interactive games, or an animator or visual effects coordinator on a feature film. BACHELOR OF FASHION DESIGN
With the TAFE NSW alumni including Dion Lee, Nicky Zimmerman, Romance Was Born and Akira Isogawa, you’re in good hands with a Bachelor of Fashion Design degree. Providing a diverse education experience designed to give you the skills and knowledge you need to channel your creativity as a designer, the degree also provides constraints of the business environment. BACHELOR OF PROPERTY VALUATION
The Bachelor of Property Valuation is Australia’s only specialist property valuation degree and will prepare you to work as a valuer of any property class in NSW. It has been developed with the support of the Office of the NSW Valuer General, the NSW Office of Fair Trading and the Australian Property Institute to meet industry standards. The degree focuses on the skills required to work professionally as a property valuer, while ensuring graduates have a thorough understanding of the principles that underpin the realisation of valuation concepts, including background and prep for a number of specialised areas of valuation practice. BACHELOR OF DESIGN (INTERIOR)
While you might naturally be a bit of an IKEA whiz, there’s more to interior design than that. The Bachelor of Design (Interior Design) at TAFE NSW provides a strong, multi-disciplinary design focus, preparing you to work as a commercial interior designer. You will learn how to create innovative, original concepts for commercial interior design projects, explore the spatial, structured and material elements of built interior environments, and develop a comprehensive understanding of the interaction between people and spaces. BACHELOR OF EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION
Offering practical early childhood education and care skills, theoretical knowledge and work experience, the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education and Care (Birth-5) will teach you how to integrate theoretical knowledge into proactive education and care skills in the workplace. There is a strong, applied learning focus to this degree so that when you graduate, you will be ready to work in a variety of settings including long day care, preschool, integrated child and family services and early intervention services. The practical core units are supplemented by extensive, hands-on work experience, which will give you the opportunity to apply your new skills to a real world environment. Graduates of this industry-recognised education, can look forward to a career as an early childhood teacher in long daycare, preschool, integrated child and family services and early intervention services.
