UNLEASHING your creative side or finding a profitable outlet for all that right-brained talent is easier than you think.
If it’s photography, fashion, beauty, digital media, art or music that makes your heart sing, with more than 500 short courses on offer, TAFE NSW has one that will help you shine.
With growing demand for short video content on many digital platforms, working in film, television and screen media is an attractive career choice for many. It’s an industry now worth an estimated $2.6 billion in Australia, providing more than 20,000 jobs nationally.
According to actor and director John Polson, founder of the national short film festival Tropfest, interest in creating short films has increased hugely over the years and can open doors to bigger ventures.
“The winner of Tropfest 2018 won a week of meetings in Los Angeles, with agents, studio executives and other industry professionals,” he says.
In response to this industry growth, TAFE NSW has developed a range of short courses to give those thinking about getting started in film, animation, digital media or screen production a taste of show business.
Anyone with a smartphone can be a budding photographer, so why not have some fun while becoming skilled in digital photography? TAFE NSW offers a range of hands-on short courses in digital photography – all you need is an SLR camera and you’re ready to enrol.
“These courses are a fun way to bring out your creative side and to meet like-minded amateur photographers,” says TAFE NSW head teacher of photography, Anthony McGann. “Students really enjoy showing each other their shots and comparing the emotion each shot displays.”
If you’re looking to join the fashion pack, there are plenty of short courses in styling to whet your appetite. Visual merchandising is an essential element for success across the retail sector and is the focus of the Statement in Styling course.
Home décor and floristry are among other short courses available, as well as courses in hair and make-up, and even spray-tanning. “Spray-tanning is one of the most popular trends in today’s society due to the rise in sun safety,” says TAFE NSW head teacher of hair and beauty, Joanne Trifunovski.
“A TAFE NSW spray-tanning short course is a great way to get job-ready skills to start a career in the beauty industry, and is perfect for those looking to polish their skills by learning new techniques.”
Because short courses can be completed quickly and are an economical study option, unlocking your creativity has never been easier. With TAFE NSW short courses, you’re free to explore and discover your best creative self, and find your way to a profitable and exciting career.
