A new national survey has revealed the truth about how Aussies start the day, including a few things we could do much better. Breakfast is just the beginning.
Are you a breakfast-skipper? Snooze enthusiast? Energetic waker? Holiday Inn Express has pulled back the covers on Aussie morning rituals with a new national survey revealing everything from our breakfast habits to our very best morning intentions.
The results are in: brace yourselves, we’re a nation of breakfast skippers. Almost half of Australians admit they skip breakfast during the week, while almost a quarter miss breakfast more than twice a week. Interestingly, this is despite one in three Aussies claiming breakfast is essential to their productivity.
So what exactly is happening in the morning?
The study of more than 1000 Australians comes at a perfect time for the Holiday Inn Express Newcastle which opened on 28 March – the newest hotel opening for Holiday Inn Express – with the brand diving deep into our morning psyche to understand how to deliver more of what matters most.
“Nothing drives us more than understanding our guests and the importance of setting them up for successful, productive days,” says Michelle Peterson, global vice president from Holiday Inn Express.
“The morning is the keystone to a day’s success, so whether it’s an enjoyable breakfast, good night’s sleep or unlocking the best of the outdoors, we’ve worked hard to ensure we provide more of what matters most.”
For breakfast-skippers all the way to breakfast aficionados, this means high-quality free breakfast. (Did we mention it’s free breakfast?). Guests will fuel the day with an impressive range of breakfast offerings including, one-touch pancake makers, wholemeal muffins, toasts, cereals and pastries, as well as fresh fruit daily.
While only a third of the population cited they currently eat a full meal each morning, there’s certainly no excuse now to skip the essential substances for success. (Tip: For those relentlessly fighting the morning battle to leave on time, Holiday Inn Express also offers a Grab & Go breakfast option).
With 60 per cent of Aussies waking up tired, and a further 62 per cent relying on multiple snooze alarms, Holiday Inn Express offers a welcome reprieve with black-out falls in every room across its portfolio of hotels, creating an optimal dark environment for restful sleep.
It seems the morning rituals of Australians are as varied as the nation itself, with the national survey revealing more on our habits:
- We’re striving for a balanced start: half of the Aussies surveyed revealed they would exercise more if they could change one thing about their morning routine
- Tea of coffee? Coffee reigned as the hero of the morning, with 52 per cent of Australians citing it as their drink of choice, while seven per cent opted for juice
- Feeling stressed? More than one-third of Aussies admit they start the day feeling stressed from thinking about their work day ahead
- Socially-driven: two thirds of the population admit to beginning the day by checking their social media accounts – while more than a quarter check their feeds before even leaving the sheets.
