A GUIDE TO THE EVEREST 2017

The Everest, the world’s richest turf, is set to be Australia’s most anticipated sporting event of 2017.

Making its debut at Royal Randwick, the race invites the world’s best thoroughbred sprinters, trainers, jockeys and industry legends to compete in a battle for one of racing’s most prestigious titles.

So what is The Everest, who are the contenders and how do you buy tickets? Here is our guide to the biggest day of Sydney Spring Carnival.

WHAT IS THE EVEREST?

The Everest is the centrepiece of a new-look spring racing program, introduced by racing NSW and the Australian Turf Club. Aiming to bring together the best sprinters from around the world, the carnival itself boasts a staggering $22.5 million prize money over a five-week period from September 9 to October 14.

The format of The Everest features 12 starters with horses nominated by slot owners who have paid $600,000 to secure a starting position in the race. The slot owner has the right to nominate their own horse for the race, sell their slot or do a deal with the owner of another horse to share their prize money.

The Everest will take centre stage on the final day, with total stakes for the meeting making it Australia’s richest race day.
