These school holidays, Westfield will be awash with the wonderful colours, sounds and stories of our Indigenous communities as it celebrates NAIDOC week from July 8 – 15.
From bush-tucker tastings to storytelling to traditional corroboree dancing, Westfield centres across the country will come alive with a multitude of family-friendly events, workshops and activations during NAIDOC week.
NAIDOC – National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee – aims to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Indigenous Australians. This year’s theme, “Because of her, we can!”, recognises the active and significant role that Indigenous Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have played – and continue to play – in Australia.
Experience the sights and sounds of a mini corroboree and learn the ways of traditional Indigenous art in a fun and creative workshop. Learn how to play a didgeridoo and enjoy some delicious food. Come and listen to Indigenous authors and musicians, or just experience the warmth of a unique and memorable Welcome to Country ceremony.
Join Westfield these school holidays and acknowledge the contributions that Indigenous Australians have made, and make, to our society.
NAIDOC week activities and times vary per centre. Explore your local Westfield centre website to see what’s happening near you.
