For a long-awaited ‘Mean Girls’ reunion, we'll be wearing pink.
Nearly 20 years after the cult-classic film Mean Girls first graced our screens and made its indelible, pink-hued mark on pop-culture forever, news of a film reunion has surfaced when three of the movie's major cast members—Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert—were spotted filming what has been reported as a commercial project together in Los Angeles earlier this week.
Though Rachel McAdams, the film's second lead, didn't appear to have joined them on set, Lohan, Seyfried and Chabert were busy slipping into old characters. Seyfried and Chabert were both seen wearing respective pink outfits, and Chabert was also spotted driving a silver convertible that bears a remarkable resemblance to the one used in the original film. Lohan was photographed in a simple, all black outfit—as would be in character for the no-fuss Cady Heron—and clutching a white zipped pouch that read “Plastics Club Member”, complete with pink symbols and the iconic quote, “On Wednesdays we wear pink”—if there was any doubt this new project was Mean Girls adjacent, there isn't anymore.

While details of the project remain elusive, the coincidence with the original film's 20th anniversary, which falls next year, seems to suggest a potential release date. 2024 will also see the premiere of the Mean Girls Musical, which is set to star the likes of Reneé Rapp and Angourie Rice, and was written by the renowned Tina Fey, who penned the original film, and is said to also be reprising her own role as Ms. Norbury in her Broadway show.
Whether Fey and other key cast members of the 2004 film will join Lohan and the others in this particular new project is yet to be determined, but as Seyfried has previously told the media, herself and her former co-stars are “100 percent” on board with reviving their old characters in one way or another—an event that Mean Girls fans everywhere are sure to find “so fetch”.
