“‘Dear Lewis, I was talking to Ed yesterday and we were talking about you. He said you were feeling a bit like an impostor. BOLLOCKS!” the email reads.

“You’re totally your own man and your album is still rising all over the world. And it’s your first album.

“You write beautiful songs that resonate with millions of people. You’re great live and a wonderful singer… You are also very funny and original.

“I mean this sincerely. Stop it now please, or I’ll come out to Suffolk and bring out the latent homo in you. Buckets of love, Elton.”

He said it was a “very real possibility” he may have to retire from music.

“My tic is getting quite bad on stage now,” Capaldi told the Times in London.

“I’m trying to get on top of that. If I can’t, I’m f---ed. It’s easier when I play guitar, but I hate playing guitar. I know, I’m a walking contradiction.”

The 26-year-old artist, who broke into the global charts in 2019 with the heart-wrenching ballad Someone You Loved in 2019, revealed his diagnosis last September because of cruel speculation he was abusing drugs.

He said in his recent interview that playing music appears to have exacerbated his Tourette’s symptoms.

“It’s only making music that does this to me, otherwise I can be fine for months at a time, so it’s a weird situation,” he said.

“Right now, the trade-off is worth it, but if it gets to a point where I’m doing irreparable damage to myself, I’ll quit.”

A documentary How I’m Feeling Now which lands on Netflix this week will go behind the scenes as the award-wining songwriter began work on his second record Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent which is released on May 19.

Capaldi has shared that his rapid rise to success and performing to sold-out crowds of tens of thousands of people has worsened his anxiety even as h has won hearts for his comedic turns on red carpets and onstage banter.

In the trailer to the documentary which coincides with the release of his latest single also titled How I’m Feeling Now, Capaldi was candid about also suffering impostor syndrome after his pop breakthrough and the pressure he felt to come up with another hit album after his debut Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, which went platinum in Australia.

“My anxiety is out of control. I feel like I’m in a race against the clock to get my mental health in order,” he says in the trailer.

Capaldi has a hectic touring schedule over the next two months, playing more than 25 shows through America and Europe before he is due to kick off his Australian tour at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on July 7.
