Brigitte Bardot suffers breathing difficulties, ambulances called to her home
French actor Brigitte Bardot, 88, suffered a medical episode amid a brutal heatwave that has gripped Europe.
Ambulances were called to the home of screen siren Brigitte Bardot, 88, after she suffered breathing difficulties.
Her husband, Bernard d’Ormale, confirmed the scare took place on Wednesday morning and said the ambulances initially got the wrong address.
“It was around 9am when Brigitte had trouble breathing,” he told Var-matin newspaper.
“(Her breathing) was stronger than usual but she did not lose consciousness. Let’s call it a moment of respiratory distraction.”
Bardot required oxygen and paramedics stayed at her southern France home for a while to monitor who condition.
Mr d’Ormale suggested the heatwave gripping Europe may be behind the medical episode.
“Like all people of a certain age, she can no longer bear the heat. It happens at 88 years old. She must not make useless efforts,” he said.
Bardot was one of the best known sex symbols of the 1950s and 1960s.
At only 15 the former ballerina graced the cover of Elle which led to her first acting role in the film Les Lauriers sont coupés.
She went on to star in 47 films including The Truth, Le Méprris, Viva Maria!.
But it was her role the 1957 film And God Created Woman that won her global recognition.
