Alcohol tops last-minute Xmas gifting ideas
Around one in seven Australians plan to gift alcohol this Christmas and of those, wine is the most popular option according to Coles data.
Mother/daughter social media influencers Mary and Martha Kalifatidis will likely be spending Christmas with a cocktail in hand, as they join one in seven Australians who plan to gift alcohol this festive season.
According to Coles data, wine reigns supreme as the most favoured choice among gift-givers with the majority surveyed intending to gift red wine, closely followed in popularity by sparkling wine.
Mary said she falls into the smaller percentage of people who will be celebrating Christmas with spirits, naming Mayfair Pink Gin as her go-to, especially when it comes to last-minute gifts.
“Every year I say I’m not going to leave it to the last minute, and every year I find myself making a last-minute dash to the shops to buy presents. I blame my big family. We always think we’re organised, but my background is Greek, so …” she said.
“I jumped on to the gin wagon very late in life, but that’s my drink now. Because the colour of this gin is pink, you can add some raspberries and people think you’ve got this gorgeous fancy cocktail.”
The Mayfair Gin ambassador said adding pomegranate juice to the gin is another way to jazz up the drink.
“My daughter Martha is a little bit more adventurous and more new age. I’m old fashioned. I like to keep things simple.”
Having lost her beloved dad Chris earlier this year, Mary said she will be spending a quiet Christmas at home surrounded by family.
“While it will be hard celebrating for the first time without my dad, it’s so special seeing the joy it brings my family to have our first Christmas with our grandson, Martha and Michael’s son, Lucius.”
To keep things simple Mary has bought several of the Mayfair Pink Gin Gift Boxes, available exclusively at First Choice Liquor Market, Liquorland and Vintage Cellars, for loved ones.
Coles Liquor General Manager of Customer Loyalty, Mia Lloyd, said gift packs are always a popular choice this Christmas.
“Gift packs are an impressive present and have the added benefit of not needing to be wrapped.”
