Hosts stunned by most Aussie hurricane interview ever

An Australian barefoot waterskiing coach in Florida has given a wild interview on Adelaide radio as a once-in-a-century hurricane makes landfall.

Peter O’Neill has been caught up in Hurricane Milton after he flew to Winter Haven, Florida, with a group of teammates for a waterskiing competition.

And speaking on FIVEAA’s Breakfast with David & Will on Thursday, the man from Yarrawonga, Victoria, gave a uniquely Australian insight into the chaos as it was unfolding.

“She’s blowin’,” Mr O'Neill began.

“If you go outside, it will blow the skirt right off you.”

The hosts then asked how the team was coping in the crisis, and that’s when the interview took a surprising twist.

“Half the team are on the piss already,” Mr O'Neill quipped.

“Everyone’s pretty calm, pretty relaxed.”

When asked how locals were handling the emergency, Mr O’Neill continued with his relaxed demeanour.

“Mate, honestly, none of them could give two hoots.

“Most of them are just standing around saying, ‘they’ll be a bit of carnage, we’ll get a few things down, but nothing too bad. Nothing to lose your pants over or anything’.”

Mr O’Neill said the rest of the week was forecast for “blue skies” and he was hopeful of getting back on the water after the once-in-a-century hurricane had passed.

“Hopefully in 24 hours we’ll be back waterskiing again.”

His responses drew howls of laughter from the hosts.

“You waterskiing types seem like tough people because I reckon a lot of other events would be cancelled in the face of a one in a century storm,” Will Goodings said.

“If you're a barefoot waterskier, you know how to get the sh*t beat out of you and get up and go again,” Mr O’Neill replied.

“It’s not too bad.”
