Harvest 100: Farmers reveal ultimate header driving playlist
From rock anthems to country classics, grain producers are building a music playlist to power through another challenging season with Harvest 100. What’s your top pick?
What do a header, Jimmy Barnes and AC/DC have in common?
If the Harvest 100 is anything to go by, all are essential when it comes time to getting grain off the paddocks.
Grain Producers SA is in its fourth year of running a Harvest 100, where growers are challenged to nominate songs for the busy time of year.
And the results are billed as the “ultimate harvest playlist”.
Last year, the number one song was, appropriately, Have You Ever Seen the Rain by Credence Clearwater Revival but Australian bands have made also appearances at the top including AC/DC’s Thunderstruck and Driving Wheels by Jimmy Barnes.
The Harvest 100 was created as a bit of fun, but the idea also highlights mental health and wellbeing during a notoriously busy period.
GPSA chief executive officer Brad Perry said research showed listening to music could help reduce stress and lift your mood.
“Both these things are important during long hours on the header,” Mr Perry said.
“This has been a tough couple of seasons.
“A good playlist won’t change the weather, but it can have a positive impact on farmers. “Harvest 100 is a simple way we can all support each other, stay connected and keep conversations going during often isolating work periods on-farm.”
Mr Perry said he hoped the list, which will feature on the GPSA’s Spotify account, would include a range of genres including rock, country or pop.
“We want to hear the songs that flow from your header, your chaser bin or your ute,” he said.
Song nominations can be made at www.harvest100.com.au and close on October 31.
“The final playlist will be released after that, ensuring grain producers have a top-notch selection of tunes to power through to the end of the season,” Mr Perry said.
