VICTORIA’S top all-round performing students have been recognised in the Premier’s VCE Awards, including four students from three regional schools.
The Top All-Round VCE High Achiever awards recognise students who achieved study scores of 46 or higher out of 50 in at least five VCE subjects.
Daniel Hughes from Swan Hill College, Mubasshir Murshed from Lavalla Catholic College in the Latrobe Valley, and Yang Liu and Olivia Putland from Ballarat Clarendon College were among the 28 students who received an award.
Victorian Education Minister James Merlino congratulated the high-achieving students, which were announced online today.
“Congratulations to our top-performing VCE students who have worked hard to excel, and a massive thank you to their families, friends and school communities for the support given throughout their schooling,” he said.
Ballarat Clarendon College said it was celebrating remotely today, having also had another two students pick up Study Awards for a study score of 46 or above in a subject.
Shuning Wang was recognised for Further Mathematics and Abbey Latta for Health and Human Development.
“Each Premier’s VCE Award is a highly regarded accolade and we are extremely proud of Olivia Putland, Yang Liu, Shuning Wang and Abbey Latta for their hard work, passion and dedication to their studies,” Ballarat Clarendon College principal David Shepherd said.
Mr Shepherd said their families, teachers and the entire community had much to celebrate.
Swan Hill College principal Andrew Sartori said staff reacted with a rousing round of applause and many “shed a few proud tears” today when Daniel Hughes visited the staffroom to share the news of his award.
“We are definitely very proud of Daniel, he was not only an excellent student but was active in the community playing tennis and umpiring football,” Mr Sartori said.
“I was fortunate to not only know him as a student but also as adversary on the tennis court and it was quite simply a pleasure to know him in and out of the school setting.
“He is definitely one of the most hard working students I have ever met, an attitude that he had in all aspects of his life but he was still able to achieve a good life balance as well.”
