DYLAN Glatz’s first day at Melbourne Grammar School was a great day.
“I was excited to finally be at the school, beginning such a significant journey in Year 7,” he said. “I met so many new people and I remember the feeling of looking forward to all the experiences on which I was about to embark, right up until Year 12 graduation.”
Hailing from Avenue Range in South Australia, Dylan was attracted to Melbourne Grammar for the many opportunities on offer.
“I wanted to do well academically but I also wanted to pursue my interests in the performing arts and debating, and I certainly have been able to do that,” he said.
Having completed his VCE studies last year, Dylan recalled his favourite role on the Melbourne Grammar stage was as a gangster posing as a pastry chef in The Drowsy Chaperone.
“When you are acting, for a moment you become someone else,” Dylan said. “It’s all about establishing a suspension of belief.”
His talent and commitment to the theatre has certainly paid off, with Dylan being one of only 25 VCE drama students selected to perform in Top Class 2020, a series of concerts showcasing the best VCE talent across the performing arts.
Dylan was invited to audition for Top Class based on his outstanding performance examination score in VCE drama.
“Being a boarder was a massive advantage for me,” Dylan explained. “My drama teacher was a boarding tutor, so I fortunately had access to his instruction outside of school hours.”
Melbourne Grammar offers a wide array of co-curricular options and everyone seems to find something that resonates with them, according to Dylan.

“It’s been great to meet new people who are like-minded and share my interests,” he said.
“I have really enjoyed being at a school where there is a real culture of academic achievement, combined with a respect for each other’s pastimes outside the classroom.”
Now studying a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in English and Theatre at the University of Melbourne, Dylan aims to progress on to attaining a Juris Doctor at the same institution, focusing on criminal law. “In conjunction with my professional career path, I intend to continue to be involved in the theatre for many years to come,” he said.
