Salt and Pepper add spice to twin win

The genetic origins of these ‘salt and pepper’ twin lambs has baffled their Kyneton owner.

THESE twin lambs are about as far from two peas in a pod as twins can get.

Penny Barlow from Glenhope, northeast of Kyneton, noticed the genetic lottery had played a funny trick on these two.

“This year among our lambs we have had a set of twins where one is white and one black. I have, of course, asked around and googled this — it seems it happens if the ram or ewe is a black breed, but these lambs are Merino-Border Leicester first cross so it seems quite unusual.

“As you can see my kids, Sam and Mimi were quite delighted to see ‘Salt and Pepper’ as they have named them, up close.”

WHILE Melburnians and those from the Mitchell Shire must now wear masks to leave the house, it is not yet compulsory for regional Victorians.

However, some individuals and businesses have, regardless, taken up the health message — and while some city folk might be queuing around the block to get their hands on a ream of fabric, this farmer had no such trouble finding the raw material he needed.
