Centralising govt departments will give 'a proper home' for services: Daniel Andrews

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has sworn in his new government’s cabinet, announcing a line up which includes several reshuffles.

Jacinta Allan will stay on as Deputy Premier and will also keep her transport portfolios.

Tim Pallas will serve a third term as Treasurer, Jaclyn Symes will remain as Attorney-General and Mary-Anne Thomas is set to retain her Health Minister role.

However, Lizzie Blandthorn has been moved from her position as planning minister in favour of Sonya Kilkenny.

Ms Blandthorn’s brother, Paul, is the director of a lobbying firm that engages in planning matters which prompted conflict of interest issues.

She will instead become Deputy Leader of the Government in the Legislative Council, taking on the portfolios of Disability, Ageing and Carers and Child Protection and Family Services while also leading the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing.

Ms Allan said the new ministry was representative of the “incredibly diverse parliament” which was elected.

“It’ll be a parliament that will better reflect Victoria … particularly today, on reflection, I’m incredibly proud to be part of a government in which a significant majority in the cabinet are women,” she said.

“It’s a strong, diverse cabinet and government and we will certainly see that reflected on the benches when parliament returns.”

Danny Pearson will remain Assistant Treasurer, as well as leading a new Department of Government Services as Minister for Government Services.

He will become Minister for WorkSafe and the TAC, overseeing key government insurance schemes along with adding Minister for Consumer Affairs to his responsibilities.

Gabrielle Williams will take over the ambulance services portfolio and remain the Minister for Treaty and First Peoples.

Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio will oversee an altered department which will now be known as the Department of Energy.

She will also be given new titles as the minister for the State Electricity Commission, Climate Action, and Resources.

Ben Carroll will add the portfolios of Industry and Innovation, Manufacturing Sovereignty and Employment while retaining his existing role as Public Transport Minister.

Victorian Parliament will return for a single day on December 20 for MPs to be sworn in to their new roles.
