Five nuns hospitalised, one critical, after Mulgoa crash in western Sydney

A group of nuns, including one who is 100 years old, have been rushed to hospital after a van crashed into a tree in Sydney’s west overnight.

Five nuns – aged between 46 and 100 years – were injured when a van crashed into a tree in Sydney’s west overnight.

Police, paramedics, and firefighters were called to a property on Fairlight Road in Mulgoa following reports a car had crashed into a tree about 8.45pm.

A 46-year-old woman was driving four other women in a Kia Carnival when it is believed to have rolled down an embankment and hit a tree.

“You could say it’s divine intervention,” NSW Ambulance Inspector Nathan Sheraton told Nine News.

An 83-year-old passenger was seriously injured in the crash and was flown to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

The crash also injured a 100-year-old nun, who was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a serious condition.

The driver and two other passengers – aged 82 and 88 – were taken to Nepean Hospital in a stable condition.
