Wool Industry Medal recipients announced

A SUPERFINE wool grower from St Helens, near Yambuk, is among this year’s recipients of the Australian Wool Industry Medal.
The medal, presented by the Federation of Australian Wool Organisation, recognises people who have made an exceptional and sustained contribution to the wool industry. Daivd Rowbottom, who, along with wife Susan, won the Ermenegildo Zegna Vellus Aereum Trophy last year, was one of the recipients.
Others included Tom Ashby, Stephanie Brooker-Jones and Trevor James from South Australia and Jim Marler from NSW.
FAWO chairman David Michell made the presentation at the Australian Wool Industries Secretariat Wool Industry dinner last week.
Mr Michell said the recipients had made a significant contribution to Australia’s wool industry. “The diversity and range of their backgrounds and experience identifies that their contribution goes beyond the wool industry,” Mr Michell said.
“This year’s recipients have come from a number of wool industry sectors including farming, broking, metrology and science and includes various services such as education, mentoring and breeding sectors.”
He said their influence also had impact on regional communities, and internationally.
Mr Michell said the wool industry was enjoying high prices during the past two years. “It is a privilege to be able to present these awards and remind ourselves that a community of support and recognition is a healthy way to ensure that the Australian wool industry creates a positive image that is attractive to the next generation.”
